NEWPORT-Two small children were injured and airlifted to
the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a vehicle accident on Holt
Town Road on Monday, March 18 at 8 p.m., the Cocke County Sheriff's Department
reported.
Sgt. Robert Thornton said this morning (Tuesday, March
19) that the injuries to the two-year-old and four-year-old children turned out
to not be as serious as initially thought when they were airlifted by
helicopter to Knoxville following the single-vehicle accident.
A total of four people were injured when a 1995 Ford
minivan driven by Kenneth Schultz, 43, of 7th Street, in Newport, apparently
went out of control in a curve, went across the road, and struck a ditch on the
left side of the road. The Ford rolled over several times before coming to a
stop on its top, the report stated.
