NEWPORT-Three people were injured in a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Sunday, March 17, on U.S. Highway 25/70 near KOA Lane, at 4:15 p.m., the Newport Police Department reported.

Linda Sue Samples, 47, of 416 Highway 411, in Newport, was flown by helicopter from the accident scene to Johnson City Medical Center.

On Monday night, March 18, Samples was listed in "stable" condition at JCMC. A hospital physician said Samples had suffered left leg fractures, a deep cut on her right leg, and the severing of an artery that was repaired in surgery. "She's alert and oriented," the physician said.
