NEWPORT—Newport City Council on
Tuesday approved a motion for drainage and site preparation for a new combination library/museum
complex to be built downtown. A clause was added to make the deal with
Robert G. Campbell & Associates, the engineering firm, "contingent upon closing" on a USDA
Rural Development loan for the project. A separate motion was passed
to approve a contract with Michael Brady, Inc. for architectural services on the new complex,
contingent upon the closing of properties purchased to make way for the complex. The owner of the
firm, Michael Brady, gave a virtual tour PowerPoint presentation on a proposed design of the new
building. A separate motion to renovate the back part of City Hall was
defeated. Aldermen Bugg and Morgan voted for the renovation; Holt, Gregg, and Costner voted it
down.
