NEWPORT-Scott Collins, who has been Newport's city
administrator for five years, said Wednesday, March 13, that he was "still
in a state of shock somewhat" over the motion passed at Tuesday's City
Council meeting to fire him.
Newport City Council approved a motion at its regular
monthly meeting to terminate Collins' employment effective immediately, by a
vote of 3-2.
Voting in favor of Collins' firing were Alderwoman Kathy
Holt, who proposed the motion, Alderman Freddie Gregg, and Vice-Mayor Bill
Costner.
Voting "no" on the motion to terminate Collins'
employment was Alderman Kenny Morgan and Alderman John Bugg.
The move to terminate Collins allegedly caught him by
surprise, as it did aldermen Morgan and Bugg, and others present at the
meeting.
