NEWPORT-The Finance Committee of the Cocke County
Legislative Body on Monday discussed the possibility of adding ramps to better
service rafting companies on the Pigeon River.
In a packet created by County Clerk Janice Butler's
office, which handles rafting fees, two ramps are being proposed. Due to a
meeting in Nashville, Butler was unable to attend Monday's meeting. Cocke
County Fire/Emergency Service Coordinator, David Cody, however, presented the
packet and discussed the proposal.
"We're looking at two new put-ins," said Cody.
"One would be for rafters and the other would be for private
individuals."
The costs for the proposed ramps would total $118,400.
The first ramp would be for rafting companies and would be 16 feet wide and
cost an estimated $64,000, while the private ramp would only be 12 feet wide
and cost $54,400.
