NEWPORT-A Cocke County school bus driver, who was just minutes before starting her evening route, was arrested for multiple alcohol-related charges on Monday.

Bus driver Cheryl Ann Hembree, 39, of Parrottsville, was arrested in her parked school bus on Monday, March 11, and charged with DUI and violation of the open container law, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Hembree, of 3389 Wild Turkey Way, Parrottsville, allegedly bought a large can of beer at a gas station and was found in her otherwise empty school bus behind the Newport Presbyterian Church on Hedrick Drive, in Newport, around 3 p.m. She had the nearly-empty 24-ounce can in her possession at the time.
