NEWPORT—Heavy rains, strong winds and snow caused travel
problems, power outage and closed schools in Cocke County Tuesday and
Wednesday.
Some low-lying areas suffered minor flooding Tuesday as
heavy rains moved through the area. The rains were accompanied by strong wind
gusts, which caused multiple powers outages. According to Jimmy Robertson of Newport Utilities,
the utility had 108 outages due to the weather. Over 100 of these were due
to windblown trees tearing down power lines in the residential area across from
I-40 Truck Stop on Edwina Road.
