NEWPORT—Strong winds caused property damage and power outages throughout Cocke County on Tuesday.

Among the damages reported, the metal roof of a large hay barn was pealed off by strong winds at the Hollis Allen farm off Lower English Creek Road. Meanwhile, in Cosby, a wind gust knocked down the sign at the Front Porch Restaurant. In another report, a building at Trash and Treasures in Reidtown was collapsed and an awning blown off by the winds.

According to Jimmy Robertson of Newport Utilities, there were several power outages due to the gusting winds Tuesday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Approximately 2 dozen different outages affected 400 customers in the Cosby, Edwina-Bridgeport, West Newport/Edgemont, and Long Creek areas.
