Strong winds on Tuesday crushed the front of a building and blew a large
metal awning off of a business in Reidtown, at 1608 West Highway 25/70,
on Tuesday, Feb. 26 around 10 a.m. "Trash and Treasure" sells yard sale
items and antiques, said owners William and Barbara Smith. See more

NEWPORT—Strong winds caused property damage and power
outages throughout Cocke County on Tuesday.
Among the damages reported, the metal roof of a large hay
barn was pealed off by strong winds at the Hollis Allen farm off Lower English
Creek Road. Meanwhile, in Cosby, a wind gust knocked down the sign at the Front
Porch Restaurant. In another report, a building at Trash and Treasures in
Reidtown was collapsed and an awning blown off by the winds.
According to Jimmy Robertson of Newport Utilities, there
were several power outages due to the gusting winds Tuesday between 5 a.m. and
5 p.m. Approximately 2 dozen different outages affected 400 customers in
the Cosby, Edwina-Bridgeport, West Newport/Edgemont, and Long Creek
areas.
