GRAY--The Lady Red had Tennessee High on the hook several
times, but could never reel in the Lady Vikings in their Region 1-AAA semi-final clash Monday night
at Daniel Boone High School.
As a result, the District 1-AAA runner-ups escaped with a 47-42
victory that sends Tennessee High [26-5] into Wednesday’s championship game against District 1-AAA
champion Science Hill for a fourth time this season. Science Hill fought off Morristown West
in the nightcap, 54-38.
Cocke County never led in the game but whittled the margin to a
single point once each in the second and third quarters, missed two free throws that would have
forged a tie with 3:01 left in the contest and saw a pair of potential game-tying three-point
attempts rim out in the final fifteen seconds.
“We missed some opportunities throughout the
game – missed some free throws and some short shots,” lamented Cocke County head coach Jeremy
Byrd.
