NEWPORT-Despite revisions to the original legislation,
Cocke County officials still have concerns over the County Financial Management
System of 2013, being proposed by the State Comptroller's Office, and are
urging stoppage of the legislation.
Both Cocke County Trustee Rob Mathis
and County Clerk Janice Butler spoke against the proposed legislation, which is
now in the Local Government Committee of both the State House and State Senate.
Responding
to an article in this past weekend's edition of the Plain Talk, in which Jim
Arnette, director of Local Government Audit, pointed out revisions in the
proposal, Trustee Mathis presented CLB members with a memorandum addressing
other concerns.
Mathis said officials "across the state are raising a
fuss. This is not just me opposing this. The state Trustees Association, County
Officials and Highway Officials are all against it.The Sheriff's Association is
going to meet on it next week."
