Five local basketball teams came away with championship
hardware on Saturday.
The Cocke County High School Lady Red basketball team took its first
District 2-AAA tournament championship since 1987-88 with a 44-32 win over Morristown West at
Seymour High School.
At Grainger High School, Cosby High School again picked up another pair
of District 2-A championships. The fifth-ranked Lady Eagles cruised to a 59-29 win over Hancock
County in the title game. The win was Cosby's 24th of the campaign, as they eye another trip to the
TSSAA State Tournament.
The Eagles also came through with another crown, taking a 58-48 win
over Hancock County in the rubber match between the two schools.
At the Cocke County
Elementary Basketball Tournament, Parrottsville came away with both championships in the finals.
Parrottsville's girls team ended a long run of titles by Edgemont, by defeating the Lady
Panthers 37-25.
The Parrotts also claimed the tournament championship with a come-from-behind
29-28 victory over Centerview in the title game.
The Cocke County High School boys team also
bounced back from Friday night's crushing loss in the District 2-AAA semifinals with a 41-37 win
over South Doyle High School.
