NEWPORT-Mickey D. McCarter, 23, of Cosby, was killed Tuesday, Feb.
12, when around 5:45 a.m. the 1997 Grand Jeep Cherokee he was a passenger in
left the eastbound lane of Interstate 40, struck a guardrail, and went
airborne, over Golf Course Road, hit an embankment, and rolled down it and
stopped alongside Golf Course Road, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, Chaz R. Evans, 21, also of Cosby, was injured, THP
Trooper Jeremy Shelton reported. Alcohol and drug use are
considered factors in Evans’ accident, Shelton stated.
