NEWPORT-The Cocke County Elementary tournament continued
Tuesday evening with a trio of games in quarterfinal action.
The Centerview Falcons
opened with a 47-17 victory over Smoky Mountain to advance to their first semifinal in recent
memory.
The top-seeded squads from Parrottsville also advanced to the semifinals with easy
victories in the evening’s final pair of contests.
The Parrottsville Lady Parrotts took a
50-22 win over Del Rio.
The last game also wasn’t close as the Parrottsville Parrotts
pulled away from Edgemont, 56-32. Quarterfinal action continues this evening at Cocke County High
School with four match ups beginning at 5 p.m.
Falcons cruise to win over Smoky
Mountain
The Centerview Falcons cruised to a 47-17 win against Smoky Mountain on Tuesday
evening in the Cocke County Elementary tourament.
Skylar Gray led Centerview with 16 points
on the evening. Kyler McGill finished as Smoky Mountain’s leading scorer with nine
points.
The Falcons wasted no time jumping out to an early lead as they sprinted out to a
12-0 start. Gray led the Falcons in the first with six points.
Smoky Mountain’s first
points came with 5:10 left in the first half as Ty Way scored on a shot around the basket.
It was too little too late though as the Falcons stretched the lead to 25-9 by the
half.
Gray led Centerview again in the quarter with seven points. Auston Gaddy tossed in four
in the period for Smoky Mountain.
Centerview kept things rolling throughout the third as they
pulled away, 38-15. Jeremy Hensley had five points in the quarter for the Falcons. McGill had four
in the quarter for the Bears.
The Falcons continued their run in the fourth as Ashtyn White
tallied all eight of his points in the final quarter.

Top seeded Lady Parrotts roll to win
The
Parrottsville Lady Parrotts rolled to a 50-22 win over Del Rio in game two on Tuesday evening.
Madison Atha paced Parrottsville with 12 points while Harmony Jenkins added 10 points in the
win.
Kristyn Conard led Del Rio with 10 points.
The Lady Parrots jumped out to a hot
start as they led 16-5 after a quarter.
Atha and Jenkins each scored six points in the
opening period for Parrottsville.
The Lady Parrots pushed their lead to 30-9 by the half and
led 46-15 heading to the fourth quarter.
Kelly Shehee scored four of her eight points during
the third.

No. 1 Parrotts take down Edgemont
The final game
of the evening also wasn’t close as the Parrots defeated Edgemont, 56-32.
Caven Forbes led
all scorers with 14 points in the win. Hunter Strom and Austin Smith each tacked on 13 points for
Parrottsville.
McKayne Ramsey paced the Panthers with 17 points.
The Parrots held an
18-4 lead after the opening quarter thanks in large part to Forbes 10 first quarter
points.
Parrottsville stretched that advantage to 31-14 at the half.
The Parrots
pushed the lead out even further in the third, 44-20. Strom tossed in 11 points during the
period.
Edgemont tried to gain some ground in the fourth with Ramsey piling in nine of his 17
during the frame, but it wasn’t enough for a comeback.

Quarterfinal play continues tonight
Four more quarterfinal games are on tap tonight
with a pair of No. 4 vs No. 5 games and two No. 3 vs No. 6 seed games.
At 5 p.m. No. 4
Centerview faces No. 5 Cosby in girls’ action. At 6:15 p.m. No. 4 Grassy Fork plays No. 5 Cosby in
boys’ play. At 7:30 p.m. No. 3 Bridgeport plays No. 6 Grassy Fork in a girls quarterfinal and at
8:45 p.m. No. 3 Bridgeport plays No. 6 Northwest in boys action.
Those four winners will
advance to semifinal play on Friday, where four other teams await. At 5 p.m. on Friday, the No.
2 Edgemont Lady Panthers await the Bridgeport-Grassy Fork winner. In the other girls semifinal, to
be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, No. 1 Parrottsville awaits the Centerview-Cosby winner.
In
boys semifinal play on Friday, at 6:15 p.m. No. 2 Centerview awaits the Bridgeport-Northwest winner.
At 8:45 p.m. on Friday, No. 1 Parrottsvllle will play the Cosby-Grassy Fork winner.
