COSBY-Cosby High School Class of 2013 members have a
special distinction, in that they will graduate during the school's centennial
year.
Work to establish Cosby Academy, a Baptist-operated
school, officially began in September of 1913 when community residents began
soliciting pledges from local citizens and businesses to build the first
building of what would become a complex of structures including dormitories and
classrooms. At its peak, the Academy welcomed students from outside Cocke
County, who boarded at the school and received excellent educations which left
them prepared for success.
In 1934, the Baptist School was purchased by the Cocke
County Board of Education and operated as a K-12 school for many years. In the
last decade, the school was divided into Cosby High School and Cosby Elementary
School, each with its own principal and vice-principal. A grand celebration is planned for Saturday, April
14, at Cosby High School in observance of the school's 100th year.
