NEWPORT-Six members of the Cocke County CLB General
Committee, meeting Monday afternoon in the Chancery Courtroom, found themselves
deadlocked in a tie after attempting to select three people to recommend to the
full CLB as candidates for a vacant post in the Fifth District.
After unanimously electing Norman Smith chairman and
Calvin Ball vice-chairman, the committee asked the five men and two women who
had submitted resumes for the vacancy to introduce themselves and then allotted
each five minutes to address the audience.
Upon a recommendation by Cocke County Attorney Carter
Moore, the candidates' names were drawn at random to determine the order in
which they spoke.
The seven candidates are Terry Brockwell, B. Claire
Crouch, Linda D. Elkins, Robert Lee Green, Ben Hicks, Darrell Ledford, and
Martin D. 'Coby' McGaha.
