COSBY-A suspicious fire on Saturday, Feb. 2, destroyed the Cosby residence of a 77-year-old man who left his residence vacant to attend the funeral of his wife, K9 Deputy Sheriff Chris Gregg reported.

Units from the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department and Cocke County Fire Department responded to the 2:30 p.m. call of a "smoke in the area" call at 2690 Sorrel Road, in Cosby, according to a report by K9 Deputy Sheriff Chris Gregg.

The owner of the property, Carl Fish, said he left earlier in the day, at 9:30 a.m., to attend his wife's funeral.
