COSBY-The Cosby Eagles endured a disappointing performance at Hancock County and then had an unexpected nine days to digest that woeful effort.

The Eagles however wasted no time in putting that behind them once they hit the hardwood on Monday evening.

Cosby started the game on a 14-2 run and never looked back en route to a 66-29 victory over District 2-A foe Washburn High School.

Getting off to their solid start was an important aspect to Monday’s game, which was postponed from Friday night. Eagles’ second-year coach John Marsh has noticed a correlation between the team’s ability to get defensive stops in the opening minutes and the play of the team throughout the game.

“I’ve talked to the team about our last three games and we’ve gotten down early (in each game),” Marsh said. “So I really stressed going out and getting some stops early and putting pressure on (Washburn).”

Those stops help unveil a different Cosby (12-7, 4-1) squad, which despite a disappointing loss to Hancock County has won seven of its past nine games.

“The personality of our team is that we play better when we get stops and get a lead,” Marsh said. “No matter what the situation is, we play better and we shoot better when we’re ahead.”
