NEWPORT-Meghan Ray, 26, of Sprouse Lane, in Newport, said on Sunday, Jan. 20 that two pit bulls entered her yard and severely attacked her German Shepherd mix dog, Deputy Sheriff Michael Whitmer of the Cocke County Sheriff's Office reported.

Ray stated she was walking her dog on a leash in her yard when the dog slipped out of its collar. She said her dog stayed in her yard until two pit bulls belonging to an acquaintance alleged came into her yard, attacked her dog, and dragged it about 75 yards from her residence down a hill.

Whitmer reported that the dog suffered severe injuries and was unable to stand or walk when he arrived. The pit bulls had allegedly returned to their owner's property on Cottonwood Way.
