NEWPORT-Meghan Ray, 26, of Sprouse Lane, in Newport, said
on Sunday, Jan. 20 that two pit bulls entered her yard and severely attacked
her German Shepherd mix dog, Deputy Sheriff Michael Whitmer of the Cocke County
Sheriff's Office reported.
Ray stated she was walking her dog on a leash in her yard
when the dog slipped out of its collar. She said her dog stayed in her yard
until two pit bulls belonging to an acquaintance alleged came into her yard,
attacked her dog, and dragged it about 75 yards from her residence down a hill.
Whitmer reported that the dog suffered severe injuries
and was unable to stand or walk when he arrived. The pit bulls had allegedly
returned to their owner's property on Cottonwood Way.
