NEWPORT-Dale Brown's military service dates back to 1954.
Although he has served as AMVETS Post No. 75 commander
for the past 12 years, many of Brown's earlier military experiences could not
be discussed until 40 years later when he finally received a letter removing
the secrecy behind his wartime efforts.
Speaking to the Newport Lions Club last Thursday at
Shoney's in Newport, Brown shared tales of his times in military service.
Brow recalled he was first assigned to Denver, Colo.,
where he was in an electronics school. At one point, he said, he was asked to
fill out many forms...something his colleagues were not required to do. After
radar school, he received an assignment to go to Japan.
His deployment, however, was delayed for four weeks and
he was unsure as to the reason why. He later learned it was because he needed
secret clearance.
