NEWPORT-A man arrested for public intoxication allegedly
flushed some suspected drugs down a toilet after pushing aside a correctional
officer to flush the contraband away, on Sunday, Jan. 6, the Cocke County
Sheriff's Office reported.
Correctional officer Jody Ball said Newport Police
Department Patrolman Will Garber brought to the county jail Simon Francis
Asbury, 30, of 740 English Mountain Road, in Newport, with the charge of public
intoxication. While being searched at the jail, the new inmate
allegedly put his left hand down his pants, pulled out a small, clear plastic
bag with an unknown substance, and threw the bag into the toilet, the report
stated.
