COSBY-The Cosby High School basketball teams came away with a District 2-A sweep over Clinch High School on Friday night.
The Eagles (10-5, 3-0) completed their season sweep over the Wildcats with a 75-44 victory. Cosby was led in scoring by freshman Bryson Valentine who had a 21-point outing. All of Valentine's scoring came from behind the arc, including four second period baskets, which enabled the Eagles to take a 51-16 halftime lead.
Ryan Hatfiled also reached double figures for Cosby with a 13-point outing. Tate Parton added nine for the Eagles.
Chad Mabe led the Wildcats with a game-high 23 points.
The Lady Eagles (13-2, 3-0) cruised past a hapless Clinch in the evening's earlier game. The Lady Eagles continued their stellar play this season with a dominating 64-4 win.
On Saturday night, Cosby High hosted Region 1-A rival Unaka High School, a team they have faced in the regional quarterfinals each of the past two seasons.
The Lady Eagles picked up another quality win on the season, taking a 54-29 win over the Lady Rangers. The win was Cosby's 14th of the 2012-13 season. After trailing 8-4 midway through the opening period, the Lady Eagles outscored Unaka by 29 over the final 28 minutes of the game.
The Eagles saw a six-game winning streak snapped when they dug themselves a big hole early and could never recover. Unaka scored the game's first 11 points and led by 18 at halftime en route to a 56-45 victory.
