NEWPORT-The two robbers of Tennessee State Bank on Epley
Road, on Dec. 26, may have robbed a Georgia bank two weeks earlier, Police
Chief Maurice Shults of the Newport Police Department reported.
The police chief said Wednesday, Jan. 2, "The
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking into that. There are some
similarities" in the two robberies.
Law enforcement officials apparently have not yet
identified the two robbers who hit Tennessee State Bank. One brandished a
high-powered assault-type rifle when the two entered the bank around 3 p.m. on
the day after Christmas.
Chief Shults said he was not aware the robbers hit any
other banks besides the one in Gainesville, Ga.
