NEWPORT-City of Newport firefighters fought two house
fires within one block of each other before dawn on Wednesday, Dec. 26, the
fire department reported. No one was injured.
Firefighters said a call came in at 3:59 a.m. on a fire
at a residence at 325 White Oak Ave., located at the intersection of Holley
Street and White Oak Avenue, Fire Chief Randy Ragan said.
Upon the firefighters' arrival, a city police officer
alerted firefighters of another fire two houses up, on Holley Street. One of
the two engines sent to the White Oak Avenue residence fire relocated to the
other fire and contained it to two rooms.
The origins of the two fires remain "under
investigation", and will be looked into by City of Newport Fire Inspector
Jeremy Shelton, the fire chief said.
