COSBY-Cosby Elementary School students celebrated the successful completion of a holiday project to remember the less fortunate animals of Cocke County on Wednesday when they delivered over $800 worth of food and supplies to the Newport Animal Shelter.

The school, realizing the shelter's ongoing need for food, animal carriers, cleaning supplies, and other items, recently launched a unique project, "Change for Chow."

"We asked our children to bring in spare change over the course of a three-week period," explained Principal Christy Edmonds.

Edmonds said organizers calculated a large bag of dog chow costs $12.24 and a similar bag of cat chow costs "$12.78.

With this in mind, the administration challenged each class to raise enough money to purchase one bag of food per class, for a total of 29 bags from the entire school.
