NEWPORT-A change in Tennessee state law, which took
effect October 1, 2012, should be noted by parents of children planning to
enter pre-K and kindergarten classes next August.
According to Tennessee Code Annotated, Section
49-5(b)(3), children entering kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year
"shall be five (5) years of age on or before August 31 for the 2013-2014
school year and on or before August 15 for all school years thereafter."
The law further states that children must enter school
within thirty days after "the opening day of the term."
