SEVIERVILLE-The Cocke County Lady Red took down yet another District 2-AAA foe on Tuesday
evening as they defeated Sevier County 50-49 on the road.

The Bearettes had a chance to tie the game with under a minute to play, but they missed the front end of a free-throw situation to trail by a single point.

Sevier County would have one more chance with under 10 seconds to play, but a steal by the Lady Red prevented the Bearettes from even crossing half court and they were unable to get a potential winning shot into the air.

“We're getting some experience in these close games so when it comes to crunch time we'll know what to do,” Cocke County head coach Jeremy Byrd said. “On that note, I felt like we really pushed that lead and really kept the pressure on (Sevier) but in turn they stepped up and got right back in the game. They did the things they needed to do to stay in the game. We have to do a better job of closing teams out when we have the opportunity.”

Sophomore Mika Wester led the Lady Red with 13 points, in her first game back from a concussion sustained last Tuesday. Wester also played the game with flu-like symptoms. Another sophomore, Hannah Miller, added 11 points in the victory.
