NEWPORT-Free throws seem to be a lost art in several levels of basketball these days.

The Cherokee Chiefs used those extra opportunities at the line to win a game on Tuesday though as they held off Cocke County, 58-51.

The Chiefs hit 22-of-24 shots at the stripe to lead them to the victory, and Cocke County head coach Ray Evans was quick to give Cherokee credit.

"They hit 22-of-24 free throws. For a high school team, that's amazing," Evans said. "They outscored us by 14 at the free throw line."

Even with the outstanding performance at the line, Cocke County (4-6, 1-2) had chances to win at the end.

A Jacob White layup cut the lead to just two with 1:40 left, but the Chiefs continued to get to the line and make big shots.
