NEWPORT-The mother of an eighth-grade student at Edgemont
Elementary School addressed members of the Cocke County Board of Education, who
met Tuesday night at First Baptist Church, about school bullying.
Tammy Bell first read a prepared statement to the board,
then spoke extemporaneously about the issue. Bell told the board her son had
been bullied and said, "Please do something about this problem. I'm
speaking for parents and guardians of children who suffer from bullying."
Bell urged the board to set up monthly meetings in each
school for parents, teachers, and administrators to meet together to work on
the problem.
