ROGERSVILLE-A strong fourth quarter helped pace the Cocke County High School freshman
basketball team to their first victory of the 2012-13 season.
Cocke County turned a five-point lead after three quarters into a 44-28 win on the road at Cherokee High School. Jared Jackson led the Fighting Cocks to the win with a 16-point outing, including six in
the pivotal final period of play.
Cocke County led the game the entire way, holding a 13-8 advantage after a quarter. Cocke County nearly doubled their output in the second quarter to lead the game 25-13 as the teams headed into locker room for halftime.
However, the home standing Chiefs put a strangle on Cocke County in the third quarter, limiting them to only a pair of field goals from Jacob Jackson. The lackluster period trimmed Cocke County's lad to 30-25, before the Fighting Cocks rebounded with a strong close to the game in the fourth quarter.
Four players combined for 14 fourth period points, while the Chiefs were held without a field goal over the final eight minutes.
Cocke County returns to action when they host Morristown West High School on Thursday evening.
