NEWPORT-The Cocke County basketball squads split in a pair of games at home on Friday evening to Jefferson County.

The Lady Red are now off to a 2-0 start in conference play after a 47-38 win over over the Lady Patriots.

Meanwhile the Fighting Cocks struggled in the second half, falling to the Patriots 62-47.

Mika Wester led the Lady Red with 24 points. Hunter Suggs had 11 in the loss for the Fighting Cocks.
Jacob White and Dylan Dockery added 10.
