NEWPORT-A Newport woman suffered an incapacitating injury
on Wednesday, Dec. 5, when the vehicle she was driving north on North Street
crossed the double lines and hit a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction,
the Newport Police Department reported.
Amy Jo Campbell, 42, of 675 Lamon Circle, in Newport, was
transported by ambulance to Newport Medical Center following the collision,
according to a report by Sgt. Justin Vinson of the NPD. A hospital spokesperson
on Friday, Dec. 7, said she was not presently a patient at NMC.
The report stated that the 2012 Kia that Campbell was
driving at about 7 a.m. almost hit a police cruiser that Sgt. Vinson was
driving south on North Street.
Sgt. Vinson said he swerved to narrowly miss a collision,
but that the Kia continued north in the south and hit head-on a Newport
Utilities 2007 Ford F35 truck directly behind him that was driven by Eddie
Dalton Jr., 37, of 389 Rock Hill Road, in Newport, according to the report.
