NEWPORT-A homeless persons advocacy group held a planning
meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, for an upcoming count of the homeless population in
Cocke County.
Amy Rimmer, of the Tennessee Valley Coalition to End
Homelessness (TVCEH, or Coalition) said the results of the Jan. 24 count in
Cocke County would be forwarded to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
for, in turn, possible funds to address the needs of homeless people in this
area.
Rimmer said HUD is requiring the so-called "point in
time" count, or snapshot of homeless people in Cocke County, on Jan. 24.
She said the TVCEH is the funding source locally for
efforts to address the homeless population.
