NEWPORT-Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agents,
Internal Revenue Service agents, and Cocke County Sheriff's Department officers
swooped down on a handful of businesses and residences in the Newport/Cocke
County area Monday afternoon, Nov. 26, where suspected sales of synthetic drugs
have occurred, according to law enforcement officials.
Sources would not say if anyone was arrested Monday
because of the sensitivity of the undercover drug operation that led to the
search warrants being served.
Among the stores served search warrants are the Newport
Tobacco Outlet on Cosby Highway, and two Stop-N-Go convenience stores - one on
West Broadway and the other on Cosby Highway.
