AFTON-All of the talk during the offseason for the Cosby Eagles
was about winning championships. Saturday evening, the veteran squad brought home their first
piece of hardware this season as they defeated North Greene 66-48 to win the Greene County
Thanksgiving tournament.
Cory Valentine led the way with 23 points and Zach Daruna added 20
in the win.
"I told them that's one piece of hardware," Cosby head coach John Marsh said. "I
told them a little John Wooden quote. It's a matter of what you learn after you know it. That means
you can always get better. They're not satisfied right now and that's got to continue."
The
win certainly could be a springboard for the rest of the season and should give the team confidence
heading into a tough stretch of games that begins with Pigeon Forge on Friday.
The Eagles
(3-2) finally seem to be grasping the little things that it takes to be successful on the court and
it showed against the Huskies on Saturday.
"The bottom line is, we made defense and
rebounding our focus. We played defense for four quarters," Marsh said. "We talked right before the
game about how each game we have gotten better defensively."
