AFTON-Coaches constantly talk about the importance of making
free throws.
Several key missed shots from the stripe cost the Cosby Lady Eagles on Saturday
as they fell to North Greene 43-41 in the finals of the Greene County Thanksgiving
tournament.
It was the final minute when the Lady Eagles had several chances to claim the
lead but just couldn't get over the hump.
"We have to make free throws. It's as simple as
that," Cosby head coach Richard Coggins said. "We were 9-of-16 and we missed four with under a
minute to go. We have to hit free throws."
The Lady Eagles (3-2) did hold North Greene's
Mendy McNeese to 16 points, most of which came late in the second half.
It was just
offensively where Cosby struggled for most of the night.
Bethanie Williams and Lexi Lowery
each had 10 points.
"We're shorthanded. It's just that simple," Coggins said. "(Tiffany)
Smelcer played with the flu. They fought. That's one of the best teams in the region and we
should've won without Lexiey (Williams). That's the best thing."
