DEL RIO-Del Rio Days topped the agenda at the annual
meeting of the Del Rio Community Association on Sunday, November 18. Despite foul weather throughout the
festival weekend, the event was a financial success, according to Jeff
Revolinski, DRCA Treasurer. Net
proceeds came to over $3000, less than Del Rio Days 2011, which enjoyed perfect
seasonal weather. This year,
Saturday of the festival was cool, damp, and overcast; Sunday had rain
throughout the afternoon.
The income from the event will be dedicated to replacing
the roofing on the Del Rio Fire Hall and Community Center. Estimated expenses and materials for
the project were discussed at the meeting; a special committee, to be chaired
by Tammy Haney, was formed to seek grants and to plan fundraisers. Leslie Gibbens, Del Rio Library Director, reported
that AT&T technicians have been installing equipment to provide high-speed
internet service for the library, fire department, and community center. A Holston Regional Library IT
Specialist will be completing the installation soon, and a formal announcement
of the availability of wireless broadband is planned for later in the
month.
