NEWPORT-Newport City School System representatives
traveled to Nashville recently to accept an award presented by the Tennessee
School Boards Association.
Mischelle Black, Newport Grammar School Coordinated
School Health Director, and Charlote J. Mims, Newport City School Board member,
accepted the award during the TSBA conference.
The award denotes systems that accomplished goals to make
schools healthier. "To be recognized and receive the award, systems had to
create a healthier school environment, encourage adoption of healthy behaviors
for students and staff, and promote the connection between health and academic
success," said Black.
TSBA partnered with the State Department of Education's
Office of Coordinated School Health to offer the award program. United
Healthcare underwrote the award by providing funding for school health programs
across Tennessee.
