NEWPORT-The law enforcement
official hired to solve "cold", or older, murder cases in East Tennessee said "justice" was a
motivating factor for him. David Davenport, assistant chief of
detectives over old cases, a position funded by Knox County, addressed the Newport Kiwanis Club
luncheon meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The former Jefferson County
sheriff said that since working in his current capacity, since January 2010, he has reviewed over
200 murder cases. He said DNA was submitted on about 30 of those cases.
