NEWPORT-The Newport City Council, meeting in a special called meeting, on Monday, Nov. 19 approved a request by the city to try and borrow up to $1.6 million to purchase property and build a library complex, pay for an environmental clean-up of the Tanner Cultural Center, remodel the City Hall, and build a splash park.

Two resolutions authorizing the City to borrow the $1.6 million were passed unanimously by Vice-Mayor Bill Costner and Aldermen Kenny Morgan and Johnny Bugg.

City of Newport Mayor Connie Ball and City Attorney Terry Hurst were present at the special called meeting, as well.
