NEWPORT-An impressive defensive effort turned in by the Cocke County Lady Red led to their first win of the 2012-13 season on Thursday night.
Cocke County forced their former district rival Greeneville High School into 33 turnovers, which turned into 34 points for the Lady Red in a 54-38 win over the Lady Devils.
The win was the first for new Cocke County coach Jeremy Byrd.
"It's always our game plan to go out and make it tough on other teams," Byrd said following the victory. "I didn't realize we forced that many turnovers, but that's a real positive thing to take away from the game."
