NEWPORT-Drug-sniffing K9 dogs and their handlers with the
Cocke County Sheriff's Department paid surprise visits to Cocke County High
School and Cosby High School Friday morning, Nov. 16.
Sheriff Armando Fontes said that during their search of
vehicles in the parking lot of CCHS, which began about 9:30 a.m., one of the
two dogs alerted to a vehicle, and when it was searched, a "small
amount" of marijuana was found.
The sheriff said a school official and School Resource
Officer Randy Cutshaw met with the male student, who had charges filed against
him. The student's vehicle was seized, as well.
No other drugs were found at CCHS, and no drugs were
found in students' vehicles parked at Cosby High School, which the K9 units
visited following their search at CCHS, Sheriff Fontes stated.
