NEWPORT-The Finance Committee of the Cocke County Legislative Body voted to donate $4,000 toward the purchase of Christmas lights in the city of Newport.

Cocke County Mayor Vaughn Moore said he was approached by CLB member Dan Metcalf about bringing the donation up for consideration.

"The city gave $4,000 for the lights and he would like for us to match it," said Moore.

Committee members then approved a motion by Michael McCarter to make the donation. Cocke County Finance Director Anne Bryant-Hurst said the she would transfer money from the building fund to make the contribution.
