NEWPORT-"We can live and serve in society because of
you," CCHS FFA President Heath Smith said Monday, in his tribute to United
States veterans attending the school's annual Veterans Day program.
Smith was joined by other student leaders in thanking and
praising men and women representing nearly every branch of military service.
"Your sacrifices have made a difference in all our
lives," said Seth Stokely, president of the school's 4-H Club, and Drama
class students Reyna White and Caleb Griffith added their praises in the form
of poetry.
US Rep. Phil Roe headed a list of government dignitaries
in attendance, including State Rep. Jeremy Faison, Cocke County Trustee Rob
Mathis, Cocke County Mayor Vaughn Moore, and Newport Mayor Connie Ball.
Returning to his alma mater as keynote speaker was
Lt./Col. Michael Shelton, Retired.
