No one was injured in a two-vehicle wreck involving a Newport Police Department
cruiser on Sunday, Nov. 11, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Joshua
Veridal, the patrolman driving the cruiser, apparently made a U-turn on West
Highway 25/70, at the intersection with Generation Drive. His 2008 Ford collided
with a 2000 Pontiac driven by Derrick Whaley, 20, of Dandridge, THP Trooper
Tyler Hall reported. Whaley had allegedly pulled from Generation Drive and was
attempting to cross the intersection.
