NEWPORT-A woman just arrested for DUI and other charges
this morning (Nov. 8) allegedly tried to bite a correctional officer at the
Cocke County Jail after first hitting him twice with her fist, the Newport
Police Department reported.
The arresting officer, NPD Patrolman Derek Wright, said
he was driving behind Melissa N. Ramsey, 43, of 1606 West U.S. Highway 25/70 at
Thinwood Drive, at about 3 a.m., and clocked her driving 51 mph in a 40 mph
zone.
Wright told The Newport Plain Talk that although he
turned his blue lights on, Ramsey kept driving for several blocks before
pulling into the parking lot of Westgate Tire.
Wright said that when he approached the vehicle, Ramsey
allegedly smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. She did poorly on four
field sobriety tests, Wright stated. For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
