NEWPORT-Although President Barack Obama won in his
re-election bid, Republicans made a clean sweep in Tuesday's election in Cocke
County.
In fact, in the U.S. and state races, GOP candidates
carried every precinct.
In one of the most watched race of the evening, incumbent
state Rep. Jeremy Faison won Cocke County with 7,006 votes (68 percent) to
Democrat challenger Marjorie Ramsey's 3,156 votes (31 percent), according to
unofficial numbers from the Cocke County Election Commission.
Faison also
carried Greene and Jefferson counties in his successful re-election bid.
Meanwhile,
in the presidential race, Mitt Romney collected 8,459 votes (74 percent) in the
county to Barack Obama's 2,804 (24 percent). Romney netted about 500 fewer
votes than John McCain did in the 2008 race, while Obama also finished about
500 votes behind his tally for 2008 in Cocke County.
