Newport Fire Department Inspector Jeremy Shelton, left, and Fire Pup reminds citizens to change their clocks on the evening of November 3 in preparation of the semi-annual time change and to replace the batteries in their smoke alarms. The time change calls for turning the time back one hour.
Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, meaning everyone should turn their clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
Residents are also encouraged to check the batteries in their smoke alarms. The United States first started observing Daylight Saving Time in 1918. Since 2007, Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March and ends of the first Sunday in November. Daylight Saving Time will return on March 10, 2013.
