COSBY-Cosby High School senior Drew Schreder can add another item to his long list of accomplishments.

Schreder was named as one of 10 male finalists in Tennessee for the Wendy's High School Heisman. The Cosby High senior is one of 20 finalists in the state from 1,355 total applicants for the award.

A male and female state winner for the award will be announced on November 5. Of those state winners, 12 will be chosen as National Finalists and will go on to compete for the national award in New York City on December 7 as part of the Heisman Trophy Ceremony weekend.

"This is such a big honor to be picked in the top 20 out of nearly 1,500 other kids that applied for this," Schreder said. "I am so grateful to have kept up with my grades and be such an active member
in our community to be able to meet this scholarships' requirements."

Created in 1994, the Wendy's High School Heisman Award recognizes outstanding high school seniors nationwide who excel in athletics, academics and community leadership.

Students can nominate themselves for the award, in addition to being recommended by principals, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches.  The most exceptional students are then selected to advance during extensive judging processes conducted at both state and national levels.

Schreder said although the application process was extensive and included a pair of short essays along with community service hour documentation, it was a rewarding process.

"I was told by several teachers at the school to fill out the application," Schreder aid. "It was a fairly long application, but it was well worth it.

"All in all, I am so glad I filled out the application," Schreder said. "Even if I do not get picked to represent our state, it is still an honor n my eyes to even be selected as a top 10 candidate."
