DEL RIO-The threat of rain on Saturday, cooler
temperatures, and rain on Sunday didn't keep hundreds of people from enjoying
themselves at the 27th annual Del Rio Days celebration, held Oct. 27 and Oct.
28.
"I think it went well overall, considering the
rain," said an organizer, Tammy Haney, on Monday.
A large, appreciative crowd shouted their approval for
their favorites in the Del Rio Song Contest competition on Sunday afternoon.
Though it rained throughout the day, the crowd kept dry by sitting on square
bales of hay under a large tent set up for the Song Contest and other
entertainment during the festival.
The weekend event was a fundraiser for the Del Rio
Volunteer Fire Department.
Del Rio Days was sponsored by the Del Rio Community
Association, with support from the Brushy Mountain Bear Club and the Del Rio
Preservation Society. U.S. Congressman Phil Roe attended the Song Contest, but
did not play his guitar, as some had hoped he would. For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
