DEL RIO-Cocke County Officials and US Forest Service
Officials are proud to announce the improvements to Rocky Top Road on the Del
Rio side, making it easier for everyone to enjoy a trip to Rocky Top.
Through the Secure Rural Schools and Community
Self-Determination Act (SRS), Cocke County has worked closely with the US
Forest Service on a number of projects that benefit both people and the natural
resources in the Cherokee National Forest. One of these projects has been
improvements to Rocky Top Road.
"We consider this an opportunity to help make an
area we all enjoy and appreciate a better place," said Cocke County Mayor
Vaughn Moore. "There aren't many people who haven't heard of Rocky Top,
and now we have made it much easier to get there. It is a beautiful area with
spectacular views. If you haven't been there, I recommend making a visit there
to enjoy the Autumn colors." For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
